Fête oranger Bar Loup
La Fête de l’Oranger in Bar sur Loup, a very nice traditional festival to start spring on the Côte d’Azur.
Created now a quarter of a century ago, the Orange Blossom Festival of Bar sur Loup, our village and therefore the one where we have our holiday cottages near Cannes www.locations-06.fr, puts the spotlight every year on this beautiful orange fruit with bitter flavours which constitutes the DNA of our village.
Every Easter Monday, the appointment is given. The village is transformed, going from a small village a bit like a dormitory on the outskirts of the city of Grasse to a one-day festival meeting place.
On this day, the city of the orange tree is adorned with its most beautiful orange-colored clothes. The tone is set, the festival will be lively and colorful!
A large craft market, all day long, will await visitors on the squares and streets of the village.
Cooperage workshop, still distillation, farm animals, colanne cutting, demonstrations of dry stone wall construction, strolls, brass bands, guided tour of the village, music and a play will await visitors throughout the day.
Every year, I have always loved to admire the Giorsetti brothers who, dressed in the style of the old days, offer the walker an idea of how the famous orange colannes were made. I also like to relive a little of these ancient times in Provence thanks to the ecomuseum renewed and improved each year by my friend Jean Paul Destrehem.
Catholic families bring cakes to the catechists’ stand which will be sold on the theme of orange, while a jury will try to determine the best orange wine, our little local aperitif, and the best jam. Not forgetting the stand and the activities of the parents of pupils of the local school and all the small artisans who offer us their treasures.
Every year, Mrs. Francoise Gras, head of the Jehanne Rigaud perfumery in Bar sur Loup, offers us her perfumed creations, La Maison Venturini treats us to the best fougassettes from Grasse while others offer us socca, homemade jewelry, artisanal biscuits, herbs, artisanal clothing, essential oils or the hammered iron weather vanes of Francis Quaranta, etc.
Since 2022, you can find us at the Terroir-06 stand on the Place de la Mairie where our stand is located, that of the last professional orange blossom producer from Bar sur Loup.
We actually offer products from our organic crops: citrus fruits, olives and PPAM (perfume, aromatic and medicinal plants), olive oil, olive paste, flavored olive pastes, citrus jams, verbena, orange blossom and rose preserves and syrups, hydrosols, candles and flavored honeys.
So I just have to give you a rendez-vous for next year at LA FÊTE DE L’ORANGER !
