The Orange Tree Festival of Bar sur Loup
A very pretty traditional festival to start spring on the Côte d’Azur.
Created a quarter of a century ago, the Orange Blossom Festival in Bar sur Loup, our village and therefore the one where we have our gites www.locations-06.fr, puts the spotlight every year on this beautiful orange fruit with bitter flavors which constitutes the DNA of our village.
Every Easter Monday, the meeting is set. The village is transformed, going from a small, somewhat dormitory village on the outskirts of the town of Grasse to a meeting place for a one-day festival.
On this day, the city of the orange tree is adorned with its most beautiful orange-colored clothes. The tone is set, the party will be lively and colorful! A large craft market, all day long, will await visitors on the squares and streets of the village.
Cooperage workshop, still distillation, farm animals, colanne cutting, demonstrations of dry stone wall construction, strolls, brass bands, guided tour of the village, music and a play await visitors throughout the day.
Every year, I have always loved to admire the Giorsetti brothers who, dressed in the style of the old days, offer the walker an idea of how the famous orange colannes were made. I also like to relive a bit of these ancient times in Provence thanks to the ecomuseum, renewed and improved every year by my friend Jean Paul Destrehem.
Catholic families bring orange-themed cakes to the catechists’ stand, which will be sold, while a jury will try to determine the best orange wine, our local aperitif, and the best jam.
Terroir-06 will be present for the second year
Not forgetting the stand and the activities of the parents of pupils of the local school and all the small artisans who offer us their treasures.
Every year, Mrs. Francoise Gras, head of the Jehanne Rigaud perfumery in Bar sur Loup, offers us her perfumed creations, La Maison Venturini treats us to the best fougassettes from Grasse while others offer us socca, homemade jewelry, artisanal biscuits, herbs, artisanal clothing, essential oils or the hammered iron weather vanes of Francis Quaranta, etc.
And this year 2023, we will be there for the second year to help you discover and taste our products.
